Thai Sports Association under Royal Patronage
Preserving, Promoting, and Developing Traditional Thai Sports Heritage
About Us
Thai Sports Association under Royal Patronage [สมาคมกีฬากีฬาไทยแห่งประเทศไทยในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์] is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and advancing Thailand’s traditional sports and cultural games. We work to pass this heritage on to future generations and to share it with audiences in Thailand and around the world.
Our Traditional Sports
- Muay Thai & Muay Boran – Thailand’s iconic martial art, known as the “Art of Eight Limbs,” together with its ancient predecessor, rooted in centuries of combat history and cultural values.
- Muay Thai Yutthasin – is a dynamic martial art discipline that combines fundamental Muay Thai strikes—punches, kicks, knees, and elbows—with rhythmic music. While similar in style to Muay Thai Aerobics, it places a primary focus on the precision of technique, physical strength, and perfect synchronization.
- Krabi Krabong & Dap Thai (Thai Swords) – Thailand’s historical armed martial arts, preserving traditional weapon skills and fighting techniques.
- Makruk (Thai Chess) – An ancient strategy board game that rewards foresight, patience, and tactical skill.
- Makhos (Thai Checkers) – A popular national board game demanding quick decisions and sharp positional play.
- Thai Kite Flying – A heritage sport known for the aerial contests between the large Chula (male) kite and the small Pakpao (female) kite.
- Takraw Lod Huang (Hoop Takraw) – A traditional sport of agility, coordination, and acrobatic kicks.
- Wing Pieo – is a traditional, high-energy Thai team running game that highlights speed, agility, and clever tactics.
- Traditional Folk Sports and Long Boat Racing – Featured at national sports festivals alongside the disciplines above.
